Wellington Launches Learn to Play Programme With Support from NZIHF

In recent months the NZIHF has been working with Wellington Ice Hockey Association to develop a club led Learn to Play programme, based on a standardised model used by regions around the country.

On Thursday 12th May, the first official Learn to Play programme took place with 25 kids on the ice. The atmosphere on the night was full of excitement, with plenty of children brand new to the sport of ice hockey taking their very first strides on ice.

The programme aims to introduce players between the age of 5 and 12 to ice hockey in a safe and fun environment.

The NZIHF has partnered with WIHA to support the programme launch, and provide assistance to its coaching and administration team.

We look forward to seeing growing numbers of kids enjoying ice hockey in Wellington!
